Cock Radio, on the Couch, with Dim Sum
Hi Tim, its Cock Radio
Munch munch, chew chew, ‘Huh?’
Are you working?
Munch munch, chew chew, ‘huh? No, just eating lah.’
Can you spare 10 minutes?
Munch munch, chew chew. ‘Yes’ munch munch chew chew.
When did you first join the Hash?
Munch munch gulp gulp, So long can’t remember lah. 15 plus years ago. I first joined Lion City, then Wednesday, then Tuesday, then Sunday and ocassinally Saturday.
When was your first run?
My first run was a long long long time ago before I was a member. It was with the Harriets, a celebration run, 444 I think. It was at Joe Cashin’s House at Pungoll. In those days, if there was a big run, his place was good for the On on, and it was right on the water. He was a lawyer, the Government reclaimed the land in front of his house but he refused to move. The house is now National Heritage listed.
What’s this about?
How did you get your name?
This is a competition, get answers into me asap. ( I actually forgot to ask the question!)
Your favourite run site?
Anywhere as long as we can run. Lorong Lauda Hitam useto be good, their was a track that went all the way through to the helicopter base on Sembawang Road. You could run all the way to Yishun and Sembawang, it was so good. Lorong Buangkok before the freeways was also a very good area.
Phone cuts out.
Ring ring, sorry, battery went flat lah.
In the old days, even the East Coast was good for running. There was a hill at Bedok but they put it into the sea.
Hopefully not while there was a Hash making their way up it!
Favourite On On site?
The Red Lantern is ok. In the old days we use to kick on afterwards at ‘Anywhere’s’ in Tanglin
Most memorable moments?
I nearly died on a run! I was bitten by hornets, I got 13 bites. I said ‘I’m fine’ and I took 3 steps and collapsed and ended up in hospital. It was at Dempsey Rd; we had crossed the road and went into the bush around the Sultan of Johor’s Palace.
Well, at least the hospital was just down the road
What do you like the most about Hashing?
You get to exercise, have some jokes, a few drinks but not too many or I might fall of my bike.
Anything you don’t like about the Hash?
No, otherwise I wouldn’t go. No one forces you to go. If you don’t like it, don’t go!
On the Hash you should……….always say it is a good run because no matter what, the Hares have put a lot of effort into it and done their best. We shouldn’t criticize so quickly.
Yes, did you hear that Boo?
If you weren’t Hashing, you would be……….cycling. I like to cycle and try to get in a long ride of 30 – 50 kms every week. I do road riding, not that poofy mountain bike stuff Coo chi Coo does! I also ride with a charity group, we raise funds for charity. We do rides from Thailand, Malacca etc to Singapore.
Who do you really admire on the Hash?
People come and go, and I keep to myself a bit, so no one in particular.
Could you improve the Hash?
I don’t think so; it tends to evolve with the membership. The Hash belongs to the members so it tends to revolve around what the members want. Tuesday is different to Friday which is different to Sunday etc because they have different members.
Any food you would not eat?
No, I eat all!
Any words of wisdom to leave us with?
Enjoy yourself! Don’t take the Hash too serious, we are there to have fun. But if something does happen, people are very forgiving and everything is forgotten after a couple of weeks.
Finally, do you follow Boo?
No need lah. He is experienced and knows most of the run sites and so do I so no need to follow him.
Dim Sum, thank you for being on the couch, and Happy National Day.
