The following was extracted from the Lion City Hash House Harriers' 1000th Run souvenir magazine. Written by founding-GM Veronica Nally.

Here is the story of - Lion City Hash House Harriers.  Way back in early 1982, while on a run, on the Ladies Wednesday Hash – I remember there was some unrest about the men guests - Don (Nally) made an aside suggesting that perhaps there should be a 50-50 mixed Hash, all members on an equal footing and paying the same subs.   As we ran we chatted with Phil Wood, Mike Croft and Paul Jackson.  At the end of the run we were inundated with inquiries as to when the New Hash was to have it's first run. The reaction was that it was already a fete accomplee. On further discussion with Mike Croft, we thought that Friday was a good day for a new run. During that week we were contacted by Boo Moh Che, Mike Croft, Phil Wood.  Phil Yeuter and Paul and Megs Jackson with offers of help.

These are then the germs and roots of the Lion City Hash - the name you ask? We thought we had more chance of registering this name and it seemed rather appropriate.

There were lots of weekend meetings at our apartment, formulating, planning, arguing over the finer details and finally getting registered with the help of Elizabeth Ng, who's husband did all the legals for us, a copy of which I still hold today.   Our plans and all the hard work to get this going were finally coming to fruition, with only the legals hanging fire, when Mike Cockman came on the scene offering to help, which we all gladly accepted.   At this stage running on the Wednesday Hash the inquiries were pouring in as to when the first hash run was to be.

We now had to sort out the office bearers and Don was unanimously elected as Grand Hash Master and myself as Grand Hash Mistress. Don however graciously said it would not be right for a husband and wife to hold these positions simultaneously in the new Hash and said he would stand down. It was only at this stage that Mike Cockman was asked if he would like to hold the position. That is how the first committee-of the following-was formulated. There was no voting we decided amongst ourselves who would do what.

And this is the story of how the Lion City Hash came about.   The first run was on Friday 26th November 1982 at Macritchie Reservoir.

I have a copy of the memo of the 1st run, the logo design created by Phil Wood and Stu Davis and was drawn up by Bill Gartshore's company.  I also have photos that were taken on that run, we had 72 runners-not bad..

Please give everyone our congratulations and very best wishes for reaching 1000 runs. If you could send me a T-shirt I would be very pleased.

Wish everyone a big ON! ON! and a long future.
